Richard Allen -Painting in the 21st Century

In Richard Allen’s work we are aware that an Artist’s work exists within a continuum of the Art that has gone before as well as the Art that is yet to be. He plays fascinating games with the picture surface, using old techniques and also those inspired by new technology, producing tantalising images that oscillate between representation and abstraction. Concentrated inspection of these images offers rich and vivid experiences, which although complete in their own right are paradoxically, never conclusive; like the experience of having a word on the tip of your tongue.
